Got it home

Just got back with the Oliver Super 55 that I bought for $1000. Gas,late improved Super, red wheeler,so it's 12 volt, key start. Original generator, not an alternator cobble job. Pretty straight and tight. Haven't even looked to see how many hours yet. Didn't want it sitting out in the rain, but it started raining as soon as we pulled in the driveway,so it's still on the trailer. He'd told he blew a head gasket, but when I got there, the head has all been redone, magnafluxed and all. Said he put it back together and it was still getting coolant in the oil. He gave up and bought another tractor. Said he didn't learn about wet sleeve engines til after he bought the other one, never bothered to tear it down again.
Somebody has painted it Meadow Green and Clover White,so it needs to be changed back. Tires are solid, same size, but one's a 23 degree and the other's a 45. Just needs the usual things, rubber seat torsion spring, guages, center grille strip and radiator cap cover.
The wife's happy as a clam with her anniversary present. She wants it in the shop and fixed NOW!

Congratulations, sounds like a good deal. Those 55/550's bring good money around here.
Best to keep the wife happy and get it fixed asap.

I'm just waiting for the call. We'll have his and hers.
Just checked the serial number,it's a 57.

I'm glad it turned out to be in nice shape. I helped the neighbor work on his, and I think he might have some extra parts. Probably none you need. You got a super good deal on that one, Good for you.

I wish I could find that swinging drawbar frame that I had here for a 70. This one's got the brackets on the axle housings, but no frame. The drawbar itself off that 70 is hanging in the toolshed, but I can't find the rest. I know it's not an exact match, but I've got a torch and a welder. I put one off a 60 on the last one I had.

They're not cheap here either. The show we went to yesterday, they were raffling one off. I stopped at the Agco Dealer on the way over. Parts gal told me that the guy who restored that raffle tractor sold it to the club for $5000.

I wanted to get some, but we rolled it right off the trailer in to the shop to get it out of the rain and started taking out bolts. I'll try to get some after it's running but before I start the cosmetic stuff.

I remembered the name of that guy over there off 10 Mile Road by the way. It was Perry. I don't know why I couldn'[t remember that.

Glad to hear its working out well!
Keep us posted, we'd love to see pictures of the progress.
I'll keep that "his and hers" in mind just in case I win the raffle! ;)

Here's the one we farmed with back in the '60,s and early '70,s. Neat little tractor.

Great find. I saw a restored one today on the Marcus Ia. tractor ride. The man that restored it has passed on, but his wife had her grandson drive it in the ride today. The Grandmother rode the people trolley. They sure are a cute little devil.

(quoted from post at 20:51:52 08/19/12)I would also like to find a S44

You and a whole lot of others, including me. There was advertised in the Photo Ads for $12k, down here in SC.
