Lyles lumber planer is finaly up and running, we ran a few boards thru it today to check it out. Yep it does its job, even gives the snowing effect, with wood shavings that is...
Heres a you-tube link to see it.

It has a 262 international motor from a combine powering it

Lookin good ! Now he needs a helper to slide em back on a roller conveyer so he can do the other side before stacking.

OH! AND HEY LYLE !! DON'T FORGET YER EAR PROTECTION!! I CAN'T YELL ANY LOUDER THAN THIS !!

Selective hearing is better than real hearing loss..specially if it concerns kitchen skip...10-4?

It must be that time in Canada where it is daylight for 20 hours a day. That has to be the only explanation how you and Lyle get so much work done.... and caffiene.

Looks good.

Yep the coffee pot is on all day, now we just need to take a break to drink some of it..

If you run the tape at 1/3 speed, you can see that each snowflake is different from the others.......

We used to have a big planer/molding machine in the mill, ole Lou would cut knives for it, per what shape it was. Very loud machine, hearing protection to say the least.

That one kind or reminds me of it, though it was electric powered, had to be from the 40's, material orders I saw run through it in 4 years time, would take 6" material too, he could shape those logs they use for cabins, been so long I forget the profile. There was a big cubby hole kind of shelf with all the knives this guy cut by hand for all the different jobs for many years, there were hundreds of them, I remember how he would set it up, perfectly matching any molding or piece you wanted, be nice to have in ones wood working shop.

PS, those open belts would make me cautious, can't forget those are there and have a loose shirt tail LOL !

As we like to say - that has a high level of contraptionosity, which is a compliment.

The more belts, pulleys, and moving parts a machine has, the better - especially if you can't tell what most of them do.

Looks like its working pretty good; y'all did some good work getting it going.

Thanks for sharing your video with us.

At 2nd glance, you could just make a backwards "C" shaped cage steel tube, expanded metal, weight the bottom down leave it mobile or secure/fasten to the concrete, a little ingenuity could make this a lot safer to work around and still allow access to that side for maintenance. I suppose after some careful measuring, sheet metal or expanded metal could be used to make removable covers, probably take some time to figure that out, where to mount, still maintain access, and coordinate them to work together, or just make one big portable guard that could be secured, nice machine to have, when business was good the one in the mill where I worked was always busy and made good money.

his is a portable planer, I just have it in the shop to do the work on it. It is mounted on a heavy I beam skid which can be winched up onto a truck. For sure Im going to build safty guards of some kind in the near future
