Nice picture. Just wondering...

How in the heck do you see where you were going when you first started out?

I had to do a similar 10 acre field that was in the middle of 400 acres. By the time I got to the road, I was 50 feet over the property line. Once I got the borders opened up I was fine.

James, I have been thinking about this photo all day. Since you were bold enough to post it to "brag on your 30" sir, you can at least do me a favor and explain how you got your shredder to shred stems that tall with no residual. I looked at the near side of your pic and I saw nare a one standing. My guess is that you were in 1st gear at PTO rpm.

Right? Reason I am asking is that I have some grass that has thick stems and takes a long time to cure. I thought about using my shredder this fall to chop it up before I round bale it. Your pic is an inspiration.....course mine isn't near as tall as yours.

Thanks,
Mark

Agree on the 1st gear speed.

You just inspired me. I retired and am doing a little farming/ranching. I got rid of my swather moco and have a drum mower now. It works fine but I have a crop that has a few large stems that are driving the curing process.

For my last cutting this year with the weather going to cool off and all, and my crop won't be anyways near the height of yours, I thought about using my shredder and just shredding everything to decrease the curing time.

I was afraid of what I said fearing too many stems that just bent over and didn't get cut, but after seeing this I no longer am.

Thanks,
Mark

The original prairie grasses were just as tall, if not taller. Big bluestem and Indian grass.

James Williams,
That is a nice tractor and a really neat photo. Nice mowing job.

The tall grass as a backdrop looks really cool. I can't imagine when pioneers headed across the country and had to drive a team and wagon through areas like that without any roads.

johnson grass was not really established back then. It was imported to the eastern US in1930-1840's. I don't think the early pioneers that headed to the West had to deal with this PITA.

Man o man, that is some JG. Really surprised you got as clean a cutting as you did. Would think stems that long would be hard to stand up enough under the deck for the blade to whack them. I had a 20 and a 35D with the Perkie and liked both of them. Really nice tractors and tough. I liked the torque peak being really low that really helps their lugging ability.
