I"m looking to buy an old HD7. Does anyone know what was problematic on these old dozers. It has the 3-71 GM Diesel in it. What should I look for when checking out this machine?

My brother in ND still has his HD7; don't know if he wants to sell it though. He hasn't used it for a few years. He says that all it needs is new batteries and it would run. It has a hydraulic dozer on it, unless he sold that separate.

The biggest problem he had with it was a bull gear that broke; that is apparently a week spot, but then he used it quite hard sometimes.

He just got out of hospital today, so I doubt that he's in mind to discuss business right now.

It's probably been 30 years since we were looking for a crawler, but if I remember correctly, I think they said those had slightly too much engine for the final drives. We were looking for logging ones, so that may have been more of an issue than other uses, and usually knowing about a potential problem can prevent it from becoming an actual problem.

Best to get sombody that knows dozers to go with you. The engine is only one part of it, tracks, rollers, idelers, sprockets are super expensive.
