hydraulic fluids

I recently bought a Moline M5 at a farm auction. It has a trip bucket on it. When we drove the tractor home the power steering didnt work well so we topped off all the fluids with automatic transmission fluid (thats what it already had in it). Noticed that the bucket didnt have any lift power( wouldnt lift about 500 lbs) so looked in the owners manual and seen the tractor required 80w. Drained out the transmissoin fluid and refilled the hydraulics with 80-90. Now the hyraulics are jerky and when the fill cap is off it purges massive amounts of foamy oil. What fluid would be the best to go into this tractor? Thanks any help is appreciated!

80-90 will not work in hydraulic systems for that reason. It is too thick to flow properly. Use a good universal hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system.

I've never heard of the hydraulics on anything calling for an 80w oil. most hydraulic systems call for a 30 weight at the max. That said the foaming comes from the two oils not being compatible with each other. I ran into the same thing on another machine several years back and it took flushing the machine with a 'cheap' oil of the proper weight several times to get everything right, and stop the foaming, when the correct EXPENSIVE oil was put in.
