Those of us in the frozen areas of the contryremember trying to haul manure out of thr pile ehrn it ws frozen This was a simple machine invented by a farmer perfected by NEW IDEA and made life on the farm simpler. This demo shows running 500 lbs chunk, of ice through the flails.

That's one cool picure! Just the spreader I was looking for, too. Had to settle on a single beater with no gate or pan. Don't have to shovel anymore, so I'm happy.

Is that a Moline on the spreader?

Thanks for sharing,
Mike

If it was frozen It would do it anyway but would be sort of messy. Use to find a chunk of cement or cement block to throw in it while loading at a farmer demensration gitrib

We currently have 2 NI spreaders in service with flails on the back.
We used to sell NI spreaders at our ford dealership, back in the late 60's early 70's.

Here is one of the 2 in daily use and if you look closely, there is some artwork on the back cover, image of skunk and it says "big stinker"

we have one and still use it all the time a model 203, use it for spreading sheep manure, they spread nice and even, wish New Idea still made one but about a 350 bushel one with tandems, We still run a New Idea 324 picker too

Bought one like that last fall for $500... Worked OK this spring, but I have some repair to make before fall spreading starts - age related issues. Shakes the back of the spreader pretty good. Spreads OK, but thought it might be better at breaking chunks up.

Thats strange ours always breaks up chunks good, but we run the apron slow so it has a chance to break it up as we spread on alfalfa and cant have chunks,

I could be wrong but it looks like M5 fenders and with a magnifying glass near the screen it looks like an "M5" on the front shroud and can almost make out "Minneapolis Moline" on the side.

Yep! Sure looks like a M&M M5 to me also! Toolbox on right fender same as my M5. Also the M5 logo on radiator side sheet metal. Fenders appear to be M5 as does air clearner top cover and seat back. Not sure about loader. My M5 has a M&M 1610 loader. As Graydon was a New Idea dealer could the loader also be New Idea? Will have to look at top cover for air cleaner on my M5 tomorrow. Sure does pain me to have to disagree with Graydon tho! Armand

Its kind of out of place isn't it, a temporary replacement, the factory one had a slit in it, might have been bent too, its on the shelf somewhere, those oem ones last a long time just not this one. Not sure if they put the correct one on yet, but the previous one was bad about fumes directly in your face, really needs the oem style, I had also hoped there was not too much baffle on this temp one, but needed something.

Thanks for the pic. It brings back memories when I worked at a N I dealer when that spreader came out .
Yes they will grind up a frozen cow or any other animal. A customer did that one winter.
The tractor hooked to the N I spreader is a Minne -Moline , M5 ,L P G. Not sure what kind of loader, tho. clint

Knight makes a side-delivery spreader with flails like that, if I am seeing the picture correctly.

That big full-width fail drum must need a LOT of power to run. I know the small one on the Knight 8014 takes a good bit of oomph. Makes the old 400 Farmall snort.

Dave I did not post this thread to be used for Stupid remarks..Weather you agree or disagree you have offended me by your unwelcome addition and you owe me a personal apology, This proves your mentslity. gitrib

Gitrib: LORD, I"M SORRY, Gonna make a pilgrimage, to be with the pygmies, on new guinea. I guess that a manure spreader post, in an election year is too tempting a target, for me to pass up!
