OT- Hornady Ammo

Every weapon I have shoots differently.
I buy what shoots best in that one, for that one.
I like the Horns in the one's that throw them correctly.
Very consistent.
I normally buy locally. Just less hassle for me.

IMHO they have the best 12 ga. deer slugs out there Turned the 5500 Mosburg into a rifle . There 30-06 ammo is great , have not tryed there 30-30 stuff just yet.

Hornady has (as far as I ever knew) made great amunition. As stated below it is usually different in each piece. I like it in my 06 Rimington, but it is not my favorite in my 270. Rimington. (same model 1957 production) Jim

Hornaday is made in Grand Island , Ne. I have heard some stories a couple years back about them and the casings, can't remember exactly what was wrong so I always stay away from them. Remington has never had good quality in my opinion, guns are good, winchester is pretty good. One thing I've found is you kinda get what you pay for with ammo.

Each and every Chamber is slightly different and may benefit from Hand Loading (Usually)..
Each Barrel has a different resonance that may or may not work well with certain velocities and Bullet types..
One should always test each, to see which the rifle "Likes"...
"Fire-Formed" brass from the chamber it will be re-loaded for, Crimping amount and case (and over-all) length all make a big difference in accuracy ...
A tight chamber will cause chamber pressures to spike..

Hornady is top of the line over the counter ammo. I have shot it in both .30 cal and 6mm br, 600 yard benchrest. Ammo worked very well and is a little more money, the best always is! I save lots of money by ordering my ammo and supplies from powder valley .com. Both winchester and remington ammo can be bought cheap at walmart. But like the man said, he buys what works in his gun, price not withstanding!

As I don't have a rifle yet, I can only speak for pistol ammo. Hornaday hollow points are the best out there for stopping power. Have seen the peal back difference between a standard hollow point and Honaday and the Hornaday's are very much better.

I have a Browning A-BOLT .300 WIN MAG, I will not shoot anything else but Hornady thought it, its awesome its the best and I wouldn't waste my money on remington, at least core loks, Federal premium is a good round too.

I heard Tom Gresham address this very question last week on "Gun Talk". He clearly wanted to say Hornady is better ammo than most; he settled for saying that the smaller manufacturers usually have an advantage in precision and quality control.

I shoot a lot of Hornady ammo and reload to boot. I have one rifle that prefers Speer. What a shooter really needs to do with each fire arm is test different ammo from different companies to see what shoots best. Daughters father in law really likes shooting 220 Swift. He likes the Ruger M77. His shoots best with a hard to find 72 gr boat tail. He has shot a lot of ammo to find the best laod/bullet. I wish that the comapnies would make a smapler pack with differnt bullets in the same gr for the reloader.

In my experience they make excellent products. Of course so does Winchester and Remmington(and Federal and Speer and CCI and the non US Fiocchi, PMC and Sellier & Bellot plus many others). Hornady is also a very innovative company. Superformance, LeverEvolution,17 HMR, 17HM2 plus many other innovations including the class leading ZombieMAX ammo. I love that ZombieMAX stuff and have a lot of it. There has never been a doccumented case of ZombieMAX ammo failing to stop a Zombie! I have never bought from Able, mostly I buy from Natchez Shooters Supply. The price, selection and customer service have been excellent.
