ot low hot water pressure

all of a sudden I have very low hot water pressure. Cold is the same as always. Water heater is propane fired. No leaks at all. Any ideas?

Everywhere or just one place?
Hard/well water?
Could be a lime build up that broke loose and plugged a line.
Could also be a restriction on the input line to the water heater.
Only thing that pushes water out is the water pressure in.

Flush the tank, see what kind of pressure you have at the drain spigot, then you know if it's the hot pipe leaving the tank.....

Rural water and only the kitchen sink with the problem. Copper all the way from the tank to the faucet. Did I ever mention I hate plumbing - especially indoors! It's probably easier to cut the pipe and sweat in a new joint than opening an existing joint and then retrying to sweat it - right?

If its just the kitchen sink it may just be the hot water valve on that faucet plugged.
You could take it out and clean it without taking a line apart and cleaning is free.
Unless of course you break something.

no, two handle and new this past spring. Maybe there is some lime/clog at the faucet so that is a good idea as a place to start.

You don't say if its at all faucets or just one. If its at all faucets, something is clogging the line coming from the water heater. Since hot water is drawn off the top of the heater it wouldn't be scale which collects at the heater bottom. I would try disconnecting the line at one faucet and at the water heater and use compressed air to blow back to the heater to see if anything comes out and if you have good flow.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll start by pulling the faucet. I guess it will have to wait until Monday, got to help one of the daughters and her family move this weekend.

Yes.

If you need to open things up on the supply side of things, put in ball valves when you are soldering. Then in the future if it happens again all you do is shut off the valve, remove the hose from the sink, put the hose in a bucket and open the valve to flush it.

I think you will find the problem is in the faucet though. Turn off the water, remove the hot water valve and flush out the faucet (you will need a second person to turn on the water while you shield water from spraying the ceiling).

Its a 1 beer job, shouldnt take more than a 1/2 hour or so. Even if you hate plumbing.

This morning my son said the commode at his house would not fill up. Had almost no water coming out of the valve in the tank. Took the line loose at the shutoff and the tank and it was ok. Shutoff water to his house and took the valve at the floor off. Was about a teaspoon of rust crud clogging the valve. Cleaned it out and flushed and all is fine. The water line going to his house is about 500 feet long from the well. Not to bad a problem 12 years after we plumbed it up.
