Does diesel fuel go bad like gasoline when it sits around?

In response to the OP. Yes. How long does this take? Depends on exposure to specific metals, air, temperature and moisture.

For the specifics, please read this.

There are test strips that you can get from the oil company that you stick down in to tell if and how much water there is.

Apparently so, the price just jumped to 3.89 so you won't buy too much.

The test for diesel fuel is among the easiest in the world. Look at it- if it looks good, its good! The algae problem is either there, or its not- if its there, will mess things up within the first year or two.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see I had some in a Tractor for 20 years or so and it turned to tar. It was a pain to clean the tank and screen but after spinning the motor a while it blew the gunk out of the injector pump with lines unhooked.

No the fuel itself won't go bad,but there is a chance of algae growth,or moisture contamination from condensation,or moisture getting in the tank.
I started an old d6 that had been sitting in the weeds for 15 years on the fuel that was in it. Changed the oil and filters and ran the whole tank of fuel out of it without a problem.
