Irrigation pump

Been along since running one but was wondering about how much fuel they burn ahour. 6" pump 6 cyl John Deere. All I remember was having to get get up at 5:30 in the morning and having to go fill up the 100 gallon tank before school and again when getting out.

I don't know about the irrigation pumps in particular, but a 6" Thompson dewatering pump, with a diesel, typically has a 50 or so gallon tank that is suppose to last nearly 24 hours under most conditions.

We have used JD, Detroit, Cummins and tractors to irrigate over the years. Large guns and travelers are quickest but sprinklers are cheaper. Most fields in my area are not shped for pivots. These engines use from 7 to 9 gal. diesel an hour. We had a V8 IH 5" pump that has been scraped, seems it used more expensive LP and pumped 2X1 ratio water to fuel.
