Sand blaster

I'm looking for advice on buying a sand blaster. I have several trailers that I would like to clean up and paint. Don't need to do the whole thing at once but need something that will get the job done. Thanks

Suction type sand blasters work Ok for small areas, I haven't noticed
any different between the cheap ones or the more expensive ones of
this type except the availability of changeable tips.
On bigger areas tank types seem to do better there.
No matter which type, it needs an air dryer or it will plug.

Most important thing in sand blasting is the air supply you need a compressor with at least 60-70CFM at 75lbs pressure unless you want to take all day to do 100sqft. To cool and condense the supply line Put around 50ft of supply line in a tank of cold water then a trap at the pot and you can go without problems just drain the moisture trap when you fill your pot. Get a moixture trap to handle the CFMs and you wont have any problems. You will need a portable compresser for your air supply unless you have lots of money to get a big rotary screw type. Most people just dont realize the need for the compresser with lots of CFMs thinking their 7HP electric will do the job unless you are doing small parts a few at a time. If you are only doing a larger job one time just rent one.

Not to confuse matters for you - but I actually have a harbor freight one and I like it.

Zero problems with it - it just works.

- well zero problems if I don't put "course" 20/40 - that'll clog up even using the largest nozzle.

So I run 40/80 cheap stuff from tractor supply and it works just fine.

I had to clean the safety release valve a couple times when it stuck open. the main tube to the nozzle broke once at the bottom of the tank - but that's a simple cut and replace job.

If I re-screened sand, it tended to clog often, but it was workable. I used window screen to filter and - perhaps that's not fine enough, or perhaps it had too much moisture in it.

I've had it less than a year - but did an entire tractor, an entire hay rake, a manure spreader, and wagon gear. And it's still good as new. Replaced the deadman sortof shutoff valve on the nozzle end once because it slowly gets eaten away.

In short - I got my money's worth out of it - no question.
