LittleD,
Thanks so much for posting this. What a sight it must have been to see 45 of these each on its own railcar! I bet people in the towns the train traveled through came down to see the sight.

I will show my husband. Thanks again.

Enjoyed the pictures of the old tractors. I bet it was quite a sight in those days considering the price of the tractor. That had to be a lot of money.

Was this part of our effort here in North America to feed Europe because they
were to busy shooting at each other to grow food?

I just Googled The Emerson-Brantingham Company, and found some interesting information. Now I know why those tractors were a little pricey, they were huge machines. It said that the rear wheels on some of their tractors stood over eight feet tall! (Not your Grandpa's garden tractor, LOL) One of the most interesting facts is that the company fell into financial trouble and was purchased by, and you Case people will love this, The J.I. Case company.

That's interesting. I guess I never realized they were shipped out that many at a time. I've been through both Regina and Saskatoon several times when I was on the harvest. They're big modern cities now. I wonder how big those two towns were in 1913? Jim

Naw- just trying to feed this growing Country, and a bit more. WWI started about 1916 when someone popped the arch duke high muckaluck in Austria. Remember the "Shot heard around the world" from the American Revolution? Pretty much the same thing, the European world got po"d.

Someone mentioned the price of the tractors .........in todays dollars that would be roughly $85,000 per tractor or about 3.8 Mil. for the train load. Similar price to some tractors today.

The Big 4 Model 30 is huge. The one we saw just dwarfed our kids in the photo. Rear wheels were either 90 or 99 inches tall. Amazing tractor.
