That field sure looks a lot better then most I see here in Missouri. Most of the ones that have been hayed are the color of sand or straw and the ones that have not been hayed are a fire waiting to happen and they look like old dead dry grass that has been cut and left lay for weeks but this it still standing

Seen it feed to cows after adding urea/water and chopping it up . It works but they aren't happy/contented cows.

The only thing ive ever used it for was bedding and mulch,(generaly bedding and then mulch). folks bale a lot of wheat for hay here, but its not mature wheat. ive seen alot of it chopped and blown out on hillsides or on construction sites these days also to help keep dust down, but at $5 a bale, it would be really expensive i would think. folks are using it for something, the guy had a stack 10 ft high and forty feet long and it half gone.we always used oat straw for bedding when i was a kid and we worked horses if we had to keep one up. but someone here said folks wanted wheat straw these days so maybe thats it. i gave 1.50ea for 10 bales for the kids to throw in their chicken house, then they clean it out and throw it in the garden spot every few weeks and I plow it under.believe it or not,i was down at the local farm and garden place buying some seed potatoes last year, they had some stacked up and were selling them for $8 a bale. I heard of at least one guy that had a old baler going around and buying straw from farmers after they harvested, baling it and hauling it to town.
