Heres one for you. Drought and earth quack

Ok so was looking in another site and there is some one saying that back in 1812 when the new Madrid fault here in Missouri let go and had that massive earth quack that it was a year with a real bad drought like it is now. So do they go hand in hand or just bull

The New Madrid fault has a return period of approximately 500 years (0.2% occurrence chance per year). When it erupted the Mississippi river was said to flow backwards and the shock could be felt all the way in New York City. If it were to erupt again, most likely Memphis, Tn would be leveled.

However, earthquakes are the result of shifts in the earths crust, where droughts are a result of the current global weather patterns (ocean temperatures, jet stream). The drought and the earthquake were a coincidence. It could erupt again during a drought or during a wet year or during a normal year.

I'd suppose in a drought the less weight of dry dirt, and the rather small shrinkage of the crust would change the stresses ever so tiny so as to maybe change the odds from .2% to maybe .20000000000000003% chance, so it could have a bit of an effect? :)

Well it is said that by pumping a large amount of fluid out of the ground causes sink holes so hey maybe there is a tad bit of logic to this but probably not much. Just on of those things I saw on the net

I know that just one of those things I am passing on that I found some place else on the web and figured maybe you guys would get a laugh out of it

No, however your armadilo population will decrease. Their food source(bugs) in the ground will decrease dramatially.

There's actually more to it than that. The gubmint has a closely guarded secret that was released as a Mayan theory to get the whack jobs to snuff themselves so the g-men wouldn't have to monitor so many and at the same time lay off those employees so external_link and the dumocrats could say they were tightening their belts and create new jobs for the monitors as Mickey D burger burners. The actual formula has to do with humidity and atmosperic pressures and the soil surface area/vertical pressure gradieant parallel to fault lines. If the pressure on either side of the falut line changes too quickly it will cause a sudden movement of the plates called an earthquack causing the yuppie population to suffer a 50% heart attack ratio and the rest to develope a sudden and often fatal case of the galloping trots. That's why there are so many kids waiting to graduate with degrees in earthquackery.
