As mentioned, I have a JD 730 that the rear tires are too wide and I want to adjust them so the tractor will fit my trailer. The guy I got it from said he had tried everything, including heat, but they were/are still stuck. I would appreciate any help/suggestions.
I am trying to get this tractor ready to take to Nebraska for the RDF tractor parade August 25th. If you haven't heard about it, go to RFDTV.com and click on the tractor parade link. They are trying to have the worlds largest antique tractor parade, which is 745 tractors and held by the Germans. Must register by Aug 1st so let'st get out and help them. This is a Gennis Book of World Records Event, how often does someone get to be a part of a World Record??
Thanks to all, going to bed, will check in morning for any help offered..

Chuck: Post a picture of the casting and wedges. I just need to see which way they are on the axles to be able to tell you how to get them freed up. There are several tricks that you can do but they are depend on which way the hubs are on the axles.

If the rear wheels are installed correctly apply abundant amounts of your favorite penetrating oil then loosen the 3 large bolts(parts key # eight) and tighten the 2 bolts(parts key #9). Hit the end of the axle squarely with a large sledge hammer or slide a pipe that will just fit on axle notched and extend past axle so 1/2 of pipe only contacts wedge(parts key #4) with a thick plate welded on the end of pipe for sledge hammer to strike. Tighten parts keys #9 and use sledge. Repeat until the wedge pops loose. If jack bolt(parts key #5) is stuck then that presents another problem. Wheels can also be moved on cast centers by removing wedges(parts keys #12)

With what the others mentioned, I've had the best luck driving the tractor around and checking the bolts as I go. Worked from a 60 up to a 4440 for loosing the wheels. chris

It takes a lot of persistence but they will come loose. All good advice from the others. I have used an electric jack hammer on the end of the axle with success. Don"t want to set the bar too high but I think that the Mackinac Bridge drive in Michigan last year was nearly 900 tractors.
