siding a barn

Any one have tips on putting a new skin on an old barn.
Our old barn has vertical wood siding covered with alum
siding.I would like to take off the alum and put on new
metal.thinking I will need to put furring strips on
horizontal to have a good plaae to screw metal to. Do I
need a vapor barior and what about the void space
between metal and old wood siding?

horizontal furring strips would probably be the best if it had studs or posts inside.personaly though,besides the work maintaining it, i would rather look at wood. just something about a old wood sided barn that looks right with the world.

Talk to your local firefighters about that old wood. They will tell you it would be safer to put dynamite on there than that old wood. Do it right. Strip the old wood and then vapor barrier . strips and metal siding.Then you can add some insulation on the inside. Some guys use an insul board under the steel.
