USDA Wants Meatless Mondays Initiative!!!

Yes! The USDA has sent a memo in a newletter to its employees wanting them not to eat meat on monday to help reduce greenhouse gas emitions, & promote a healthy lifestyle! Exposed by Caroline May of "The Daily Caller" they want to join an international program which already exists! The Prez at work again!!!

& while this is going on GM just came out & reported they lost more money than they received in Gov,t stimulus! Suprise... Suprise!

can someone explain to me how not eating meat cuts green house emissions? It seems to me that not eating vegetables and grain would cut them more.i mean cattle need grass so they generally spend most of their lives on pastures that actually do cut greenhouse gasses, while a crop has to be planted ,cultivated ,and harvested.of course their is cows gas emissions i guess.

That's funny, I work at the USDA and this if the first I have seen or heard of this memo or newsletter.... Maybe your source, Ms. May, has taken something out of context to push her own ideals. I however don't read every newsletter that comes through so, it could be true.

The logic of beef anymore has been corrupted, the big factory feedlots out west use a lot of grain to push beef through their lot in minimal time. In years past the largest manufacturer of Corn Flakes was a feed lot in Colorado, see cows gain weight faster on corn flakes. The fact that cows and other ruminants expel methane gas which the environmental wacko-cuckoos have declared a public nuisance may be the driving factor on their assult. They don't want to deal with the fact if we don't feed the bio-matter to an animal when it rots it very well might give off- that's right methane. It would seem to me that this encouragement from the USDA for folks NOT to eat meat flies in the face of their charter to promote and regulate agriculture. I would encourage everyone on this site to write/call their congress man and ask WTF? I have always looked at ruminants as a way for use to produce high quality food stuffs from land of marginal value that would otherwise be destroyed if we tried to raise cereal grains on it.

I'm see Chevy commercials stating that they are having the best year in their history. They didn't say what they were best at though. Is this an effort to miss lead someone? But what can you expect from government owned GM.

I still can't beleive that a company the size of GM needed a hand out!!!

Senator Moran of Kansas is on video with the Newsletter in hand on the daily callers website, & denounces the USDA! He even speaks that they would probably remove it soon after being exposed! Apparently He was right if its removed!

USDA: Meatless Monday posting was a mistake
By SAM HANANEL Associated PressAssociated Press

WASHINGTON—The Agriculture Department says a statement on its website encouraging its employees not to eat meat on Mondays was made without proper clearance.
The posting earlier this week was part of an internal newsletter that discusses how staff can reduce their environmental impact while dining at the agency's cafeteria.

The newsletter referred to United Nations data that cites animal agriculture as a major source of greenhouse gases and climate change.

USDA spokeswoman Cortney Rowe says the department does not endorse the "Meatless Monday" initiative, which is part of a global public health campaign.

The agency removed the posting hours after the National Cattlemen's Beef Association denounced it in a news release. The USDA often promotes the beef industry by encouraging Americans to eat meat.

How many people eat meat 7 days a week anyway? If they did put out something like that, it was just a feel good move......

Honestly tho.... I used to eat quite a bit of meat.. Some kind of meat dish (and he man portions) every day. And some type of eggs (4-6) a day...

Always felt OK... Wife talked me into trying to cut back to see how it felt. Started with reducing the portions drastically and eating more veggies....

We might eat meat 3 times a week now and fish once or twice. White meat/skinless chicken or turkey the other days or just a veggie dish....

Unbelievable how much better I feel (even when I never felt "bad" before...

Just cause some A-hole in the USDA said that I will now eat TWICE as much meat on Mondays. The stupidity of the Gubbermint never ceases.

Yea... Just not red meat..... Don't get me wrong.. I didn't swear off meat, just cut way back in general and more on red meat (not real crazy about the beef here anyway)... In summer, we hit the local schnitzel house and beer garden and have a bigass schnitzel at least once a week

I eat plenty.... Just adjusted schedule and added plenty of fruit and veggies.... Takes more than a little hunger to mess wif these people skills.....

Now that you mention schnitzel, there used to be this Bavarian place in Wisconsin that had some of the best schnitzel I've had in the states.
Seems like it was north-west of Kenosha, but south of Waukesha.
Wish I could remember exactly what it was called. I'd like to go back!

Looks like the GM executives are stealing the company funds now than they did before they owned by the government!!!

Doubt that there is much government oversite, probably because none of the bureaucrats don't know a thing about business.

It seems the shocking USDA memo was a posting on the USDA employee website by an employee and was not offical and was taken down. With respect to GM losses; GM doesn"t report 2nd quarter results until next Wed. and below is the market estimate of quarterly results:

General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) designs, builds and sells cars, trucks and automobile parts worldwide. The company has a market capitalization of $29.92 billion. It is expected to report FY 2012 second-quarter EPS of 74 cents on revenue of $38.58 billion, compared with a profit of $1.54 a share on revenue of $39.37 billion in the year-ago period. General Motors is trading around $19.11 a share.
