Saw a sign for "free crates." Pulled in. What a pile of goodies!!! I picked up a six foot x four foot plywood box with 24" cubicles. Not sure if I'll use it in the basement for hunting/fishing/camping stuff or in the garage for kindling or power tools. I also got a 7-foot long frame that glass shipped in. Made of 2 x 10s and 2x6s, it just needs a top to make a great work bench. I have some 5/4 plywood I scrounged several years ago that will be perfect top material. I also gathered a few pieces I can rip for rabbit cage doors, dividers, etc. along with a couple of pieces of plywood 30" x 48" and some 30" 2 x 4s. My philosophy: If you're throwing something away that I can use, I'll take it.

Many years ago a former co-worker of mine was driving along a road and saw a TV at the curb. Well....This guy walks up to the house and asks the home owner what was wrong with the TV. The guy throws his arms up and says "its all fooked up" and closes the door. This guy then takes the TV to his house. After a couple of hours of poking around with a VOM the TV had a blown out capacitor. He goes and buys a new capacitor for a $4, solders it in and he had a 25" consul TV. What some folks throw out.

My sister works second shift in a hospital that is in a pretty fancy neighborhood. She knows which day is garbage day. She drive the streets after she gets off work. It is hard to believe the things she finds that these rich people throw away.

She brought home a new snow blower. A big one 10 hp 32 inch wide blower. (I don't know how she got it into the trunk of her car but she did) All that was wrong with it was the gas was shut off at the fuel tank. The carburetor had never had gas in it. ZERO usage.

Just a few weeks ago she got a whole set of leather living room furniture. One chair had a cut on it. The couch and three recliners where the same as new. (These she had to call my BIL to come and help get) All where a famous name brand. She looked the set up. New it was almost 15K for it.

SO I guess she is a up scale dumpster diver. LOL

I deliver to stores early in the morning, 1 store is next to a Harbor Freight. In the dumster was a Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet, Works great, and a new set of AC guages with hoses. 1 knob was broke.

When I was in college ((late 80s to mid 90s), I was working security and just finished my shift in the pouring rain when a Rent-to-own store at the edge of campus put out tons of stuff. I ran home, got the car (81 de Ville)and ended up loading 2 GE console TVs with 27 or 28 inch curved tube style TVs into my ghetto cruiser. All that was wrong were cut power cords and scratched glass. Neither had their remotes and one needed the push button part on the TV. We used one for years after my wife and I got married and I sold the other one to a young couple, along with a washer and 3 roosters....
Ralph in Oklahoma, reminiscing ..... !!
