Cornhead Grease?

I read of guys recommending cornhead grease for steering sectors on tractors,is there another name for it or a spec. so I can find some? Thanks

I got something from the Valley dealer for center pivot gearboxes that leak oil. I don't know the name of it but it works. It reminds me of the Ricron (sp) grease we used to get for the central lube system on a corn picker that we had. Kind of expensive though.

Both JD and MF have it. It is OK for steering gearboxes that leak and will not hold the recommended oil but there are other alternatives.

I recommend CNH high EP pourable grease for both steering boxes and rotary cutter gearboxes that leak a bit and will not hold 90W. It's about the viscosity of a 00 oil and is high in EP additives.

At $14+/qt, its a bit expensive but two tubes of JD cornhead will be nearly as costly.

Unlike oil, it firms up to a creamy grease when at normal temps.

Any time something warmns up a bit, it melts it down to a flowable close to a 90 weight, unlike real grease that needs to get pretty hot to start flowing.

So it's the cat's meow to put in leaky gear boxes that started life using a gear lube.

Agco has a similar product. Don't see it real often in the Napa/ TSC type stores, oddly.

John Deere corn head grease is a very good polyurea grease that will flow back into the parts with just a little heat.
I also use it in power tool gear boxes, as it flows back into the gears (#00 grade IIRC) instead of caking up all around those hot dry gears like hitemp #2 grease will do.

Would Cornhead Grease be okay/safe to use in the transmission of a Troy Bilt "Horse" Tiller? It's an older, 1978, model. I know that I really need to replace the transmission oil seal, but I also wonder if there might have been enough wear that the seal won't "do the job" now as well.

IIRC it"s EP3. Used in the NI discbine cutterhead gear boxes. Plastic squeeze tubes, rather spendy.
