Had to go into town to get a load of bread. Behind the store are houses and you can hear some kids playing. Next thing I hear "you kids come in now" - well apparently the kids didn't listen so she starts counting backwards from 10. Now I don't if my folks didn't want us to know they couldn't count or if they expected us to do what we were told, when we were told - I believe it was the latter.
 
People now days 35yrs old and younger that's the only way they know how to count because of the microwave...
Plus they don't know life without a computer!!

Crazy isn't it...
 
The don't tan their little butts nowdays, this is the new way for the snag's.
My neighbour used to be incessantly on to this till it got me down, she would yell from the back door. "so & so don't do that. I will count to ten," Invariable she always reached 9.5., so oneday I yelled,
"Go down and hit them on the Ars@"
Never heard her say it again. Sheer delight.
 
Agreed! If mom shouted your name, you quickly responded. If she shouted your first AND middle name...even if you were in the back forty, you ran to her as if you had the very devil on your tail. She was a royal spanker... took me awhile to figure out it is NOT good to say, "That doesn't hurt" - even though it DID.

No one should beat their children, but a couple of good swats applied to the seat of knowledge is very effective.
