Leaving Nigara Falls tommorow morning on a short road trip heading for Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania, Edinburg Virginia, Morgantown West Virginia then back up toward Lake Erie, PA before returning to Toronto.
Are there any nice or interesting sites to see on the way.
Also interested in any tractor collections, tractor salvage yards or heritage sites that you can recommend.
Thanks
Bill

Edinburg, Va. is not too far from Luray, Va. It is a worthwhile stop to see the Luray Caverns. They are absolutely breathtaking! But it does take a few hours to tour them.

Got to agree, Luray Caverns are beautiful. I remember going to see them on a family vacation when I was around 10. I'm hoping to be able to go back again in the near future and take my daughter now that she's old enough to appreciate the beauty too. I also remember vividly going to see the Natural Bridge. It is a beautiful, imposing site to say the least. I know we went to see them, but that's all I really remember, but there are also caverns at the Bridge too that appear to be nice looking at the web site.

Don't know if you are going to make it anywere near Kentucky but Mammoth Cave is also a really neat place to see, if for no other reason than the shear size of the place. We only got to take the short tour because my Grandma was with us when I went as a child, but it was still a very memorable tour. Looking at the site, I'm sure the longer tours would be alot better.

Below are a couple of links to Luray, the Bridge, and Mammoth cave in case your interested. Have a great trip.

Just the road trip itself will be a highlight I'm sure. When you get to the Morgantown area, find a walmart ad just spend an hour or so walking around in it. That'll be some quality entertainment right there.

Have fun.

Bill email me and I will send you details of Charlie Plotts Ferguson collection, it has to be one of the best in the US. It is in Southington Ohio, not very far from where you are heading and well worth the detour. It is so good I have been there twice! Caves and stuff are nice but we tractor men like to see tractor stuff, especially to see just how different it is in another country.
I asked the same question as you, as I am going to MO,KS, OK, TX and back up to St Louis airport after the Ferguson Expo, got a load of places to visit but no tractor stuff, guess there are no tractors in that area? And by the way thanks to all who sent me places to see.
Sam

At least 2 salvage yard along I-81. One is just above Getteysburg and the other is in West Virginia right close to the Virginia line.

Sam If you have time while in Mo On hwy 44 stop in at Meramec springs just south of St James. The spring is a trout hatchery and also a old Iron ore smelter. They have a display of the old iron works as it was in the 1800's. They also have a farm building full of old farm equipment from that time frame. In Springfield Mo there is a Bass Pro Shop It doesent have any farm equipment but the whole store is a hugh display of wild life. It has a lot of live wild life on display and also a lot of antiques as displays. Even if you dont like fishing and hunting it is a great display. Be sure to look at the celeing through out the store

Bill, Keystone Tractor Museum in Colonial Hieghts, VA, (about 20 mi. south of Richmond), has a remarkable collection of vurtually every make and model tractor prior to 1965. They are located right off I-95. All indoor storage. Well worth a detour on your journey to visit.

You mean how interesting (entertaining?) it is to see that everyone is related? One big happy family. (;>)) Well.... at least some of the time. Just hope he doesn't get caught in a crossfire.

If you are coming through southern MO, just south of Branson on 65 is College of the Ozarks. They have a very nice tractor collection on campus which is free. It's well worth the visit.

I'd say if you're getting that close to washington DC, it'd be silly to miss it.

Get right into the city, park, walk along the "mall" and there's PLENTY to do right there with all the musuems - all free.

(but I believe they still do close early - 5ish)

Bridgewater Steam and Gas Meet, July 18-21. About an hour south of Edinburg, 10 minutes off I-81 or you can take rt 42 all the way for the scenic route.

It will mean a bit of an easterly swing, but try not to miss Gettysburg. The national park there is one of the finest and can really give you feel of the last real battle of the civil war. As Bobby Lee turned south and headed home, it was only a matter of time before Appamattox and the call to lay down arms. It's a great park with beautiful, rolling hills and is one of the places that defines our history like few others.
