I had to put 30 ft fire brake around a 24 acre field, and up the middle, and side to side also 30 ft, today. I tried to walk the real rocky areas, and move the rocks, but I never seam to get them all. A lot ot up and down off the tractor .If I do much of this I may lose some weight, don't want to do that. Trouble with moving rocks is I may not get the job next year. I did a little extra, as 30 ft isn't a lot when a fire comes roaring through in tall grass. Stan

I did fire breaks last fall for a burn on a 160 acre crp fied this spring. That switchgrass was 5 feet tall and thick. The guys doin the brne did atail burn on two sides and then the head burn and they had it right up to the fence on all four sides and not a foot short or long. Neve used my breaks. If it's done right you don't need to do them with a machine. Do them with fire and a tractor with a 200 gal sprayer on the back.

Early this spring the fire dept was doing a CRP burn on my neighbor's land, burning a filter strip along a creek, a half mile long by maybe 90 feet wide. It was evening so I drove out there to have a chat with them. They were sitting where the fire needed to be stopped at the end of the strip but it was still 1/4 mile away and burning slow. We were chatting away at about dark and I noticed the glow seemed to be out in the corn stalks instead of in the CRP. I casually mentioned it to the chief and he told me it's still in the CRP, that the farmer had made a pass along the CRP with a disk. I told him in the 61 years I've lived here I've never seen the creek THERE, where the glow was. The creek goes the OTHER WAY, not THAT way.

To make a long story short, I ran home, hooked up the disk and put out the corn field fire for them. Jim
