boiling okra

I just trim off part of the stem end then cook it until it is fork tender... just done, not overdone. But I never pay attention to the time it takes.

Then I drain it and chop in in chunks, throw it in with some homecanned diced tomatoes and a whole lot of diced onions... a little salt, a little black pepper and a touch of cayenne pepper (or you can use Tabasco sauce or Louisiana hot sauce). Cook it a bit more to reduce the liquid from the tomatoes. Good stuff!

Okay! it took twelve minutes. I did this for a visitor and I don't eat it boiled.
Your way is almost the way I do it. Only I stir fry it until bright green then add apple cider vinegar, diced onions, garlic and tomatoes. Simmer down and serve over rice.

Hey Carogator, You can pick Dads okra every other day if you drive over to Reevesville. Is Godleys still having auctions?
Ron

Hey Ron, No Godley's has closed. The old man got cancer real bad and gave it up, is what I heard.
Just got a brochure in the mail from Duke's Auction Group. Seems they will take up where Godley left off. Been following your posts and keeping abreast of what is going on.

One of my favorite ways is to place them in with a pot of fresh blackeyed peas once the peas are nearly done. I occassonially eat them raw when i am working the garden. Just make sure they are small in length.

Boil??? Did you say boil???
Hmmmm, never tried it boiled. Sounds sorta nasty to me.
We slice it, roll it in corn meal and deep fry it. Mmmmmm.....mmmmmmm.....good....and no slime.

Jerry Clower said the worst dog fight he ever saw was over a bowl of boiled okra........

You'd think there'd be a law about giving that stuff to anything that depends on what you give em or nothing....
I had okra once and it cured me for life......
Tastes are different I guess....
