My 17 year old golden lab had been losing weight and had finally lost control of his legs so I took him for his last ride this morning. Going to have to find a new bud to ride shotgun.

I feel for you, had to do the same with my Golden Retriever last August. Wife got me a new one in January and he is my pal. I know i spoil him but he reminds me so much of the former it is almost like getting him back!

I am sorry to hear about your pal, but I hope you had the head blocked when you were working underneath it. I would hate to hear about an accident involving you.

My favorite and only gal around here (Sparks) is a YL like yours. She helps me with every job like that. Loves to carry tools from the shop and pile them up by the front door.

Sorry for your loss; it sure is tough when they go.

We have a German Shepard we picked up from the pound 10 years ago that is most likely in her teens, and I can tell she doesn"t have a lot of time left.

I hope you find a good riding partner soon.

That sucks..... Find you another buddy ASAP, just don't try and replace what you lost..... Something a little smaller and more agile to jump up on the fender with you will be fun.....

I feel your pain, its like losing a child. My 1st cousin just had her 19 year old dachsund put down and my Dad recently had his 17 year old dachsund put down as well. Wherever dogs go when they pass away is where I want to go to.

I've been there twice. My Lab was 14 and my beagle four. Hurt both times, but we owe them a dignified exit. Sorry for your loss. I still miss our Lab and beagle.

So sorry to hear of your loss. BTDT too many times.
I send this when somebody loses their best friend and hope it helps..
Sometimes we just need a good cry..

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge...

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER...

I offer my sincere condolances. My yellow Lab female is 10 and getting arthuritus in the leg joints. I am not a farmer, but my old Abby is a faithful companion just the same. I dread the day I have to put her down. My mind is made up though, if I'm able I'll get another yellow Lab when she is gone. The yellows are almost a different breed than blacks. I love them. Again sorry about your loss. Dale

The saftey ram is on the lefthand side of the machine, the Mrs. says I'm not allowed to leave her with all those cows to feed.

Sorry for your loss. Mine is getting a little older but still is ornery. I
dread the day he has to leave this world. They truly are mans best
friend.

Lost our rescue German Short-Hair Pollo ("chicken" in spanish, since he was gunshy) last year, ...he did not recover from the recurring episodes of spotted rocky mountain fever for K9s... we treated him when we got him 3.5 yrs ago, responded well, but unlike in humans, it comes back, more often and worse than the last time.... plus lost cat "Silver" to kidney failuure, ....and a grandma.....
My condolences, though, Eric!!

I never thought I would become attached to a pet, but after 13 years I already starting to dread the coming end for our Honey. She's the best dog ever. lol

Had a lot of 'em over the years and here I sit thinkin' about each one--they were all different. The kids always said "It doesn't matter whose dog it is, they are all end up being Dad's dog". I miss them all! We're watching our sons chocolate lab for a week starting Friday and I'm really looking forward to it.

Always a sad day. Been there a quite a few times. Very hard on the kids. Had to put down 2 fairly close to each other. Have two more again, one for each kid.

A new dog will help ease the pain. I really think my "new" dog is my old dog re-incarnated. Old one was a 170lb Mastiff, new one is a 25lb. Mountain Feist. Wierd, but the young feist acts just like my big guy did.

Getting to have a regular pet cemetary since the kids want each animal buried. All in rows, little stake head stones.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, but I'm very glad to hear of your 17 years of great companionship...

We did that in 2010 When our black Chow was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She was only 10.
We bought another Chow pup a few days after we received the results of the ultrasound. Here's that pup pic. Hal

Do you have her on any supplements? My vet gave me a supplement called "Geriatric supplement" when my old shepherd mix started having leg problems. He was a great dog.

It really helped.
