My not quite 2 yr. old sone got me good tonight

I was hauling loads of straw home from a field where we chopped them last sunday (blower tractor is down but almost back up, and we weren't set up at all for straw yet)

I was just down the road maybe 200 yards from the farm when my truck started to chug and jerk a little bit, so I pushed in the clutch and let the wagon push me into the driveway, when I needed a boost on the steering or brakes I'd let the clutch out so it's spin the engine.

I pulled the pin and Dad helped me push it outta the way after I did a little venting (my car is in the shop right now too for a no start issue).

I walked away, and then went back and looked- My son flipped the gas tank switch to the rear which hasn't worked in atleast 8 years and it'll run for a while when switched, but it's still drawing on the other tank and when it does try to switch, it dies.

It's been a couple weeks since he was playing in it last, and I even saw him flip the switch. I've driven it more than 1/2 a dozen times back & forth, and never an issue til today....

He got me good this time.

what kind of truck. ford 80-97 is the only truck i know with dual tanks. i havnt used my rear in yrs cause the filer neck is rusted but as soon as you flip to the rear tank just starts cutting out because of no fuel. i think my pump is going bad in the front tank too starting to spit and sputter ever since i changed the gas tank about a month ago.

Mark GM had dual tanks from about 73-74 till 88 or 89 with a switch (mounted outside the frame rails.....they got used over that in the mid to late 90's). Ford had duals from in the 70's too. The 77 F250 I had years ago had duals.

Don My granddaughter did the exact thing to me. I was about ready to look for a new pump, when my brain kicked in and started working. Why do I smell bad gas at the pump inlet.?

I just wanted to add,to the not quite two year old tricks. This past winter i was changing the thermostat in my 706 diesel,if anyones familliar with that ih uses 2 7/16 bolts about 3 and 1/2 long, cleaned them up and set them on the tire,he was 18 months at the time and while cleaning the gasket area i heard a noise like bolts being thrown. No bigging their because i keep him in the shop some times, and goes thru the old bolt bin. putting old bolts in all the holes in the steps and stuff. When it came to putting everything together bolts were gone and i had no idea where he tossed them too.we looked for a while, and decided this was to funny not too share with my dad that lives in ark.I'am sure i did this when i was younger also.WE did find the bolts, one of many to come. Laugh hard and often.

Don't recall how old I was at the time, but I remember partially filling the muffler on my grandfather's car with gravel from his driveway. Made an interesting sound when he drove it.

My 'baby' daughter just turned 21! When she was 3 or 4, I was replacing a tie rod end in the driveway, so was counting revolutions off. She decided to show me how well she counted, but was not going my pace-it was very confusing! Now I wish she was interested in what I do!

It's an 88 Ford. She aint purty but she'll get most of the jobs done.
