farmall distributor

Have a couple of questions on farmall h and m. Why do some have the distributor lying flat and others are standing upright? Also did they make different rear ends, I know someone who's M is alot slower in high gear than others.

Horizontal distributor was IH; vertical was Delco and its use allowed a live hydraulic pump to be installed. The IH one was too long and hit the oil filter housing.
Many optional gear ratios were available from IH depending on the needs of the purchaser.

Years ago I talked with an elerly gentleman, he told me he worked for IH years ago and he assembled the transmissions on the 560's and said there were 52 gear combinations that could be obtained. So I would suspect the H and M's may be similar. I don't know for sure though.

I have a 1952 H that has had a live Hyd. Pump added. It has an IH distributor mounted vertically. Alot of the mags. Were replaced with the delco vertical distributors.
