1956 international cub coil problems

ot at all unusual for a coil to get too hot for a man to hold his hand on. Most are mounted to an engine which on its own is on the high side of 200 degrees!
 
Has your tractor been converted to 12 volts? If it has and you're still using a 6 volt coil you need a ballast resistor between your ignition switch and your coil to drop the voltage. You probably need a new coil. Hal
