Water pumping cost

I'm writing up a Shared Well Agreement, and need an idea of average power usage for a 3/4 to 1 HP pump on a domestic water well, for home use only (no livestock, irrigation, etc.) I can figure cost from the power usage figure.

The law limits a non-certificated domestic well to 5,000 gallons per day, so that might provide a starting point.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello Mike (WA),
5k per day is a whole lot of water. 2 people can use that much in a month for damestic use only. that may give you a start. Also i can tell you That that size pump will add $20 to $25 a month for the electric usage. My municipal allocation is 3k per month, and never exceed it in the winter.

I have one rental property that the well is on a separate meter. There used to be barns there but they are gone. The well is on a separate meter a half mile from the house. The electric usage is around $40 each month.

AT our prior house we had a water softener that counted gallons and would also display average daily gallons used. We only averaged about 50 gallons a day.

What is your price per kilowatt? We have hydro dams, and the cheapest power in the universe, I think- less than 5 cents a kilowatt.

I don't think most households use more that 1000 gallons a week. I just did some math and at $.15kw I can pump that for about $.35. So, for a month that would be about $1.50. That is with a shallow well pump which is not as efficient as a submersible.
