IH 340 stuck Valve bent push rod

I have a IH 340 gas tractor, sat for about a year and did a tune up and the tractor was smoking for the first time ever, did some checking, pulled valve cover and seen the ex-valve-push rod tube was bent, and valve is stuck and not moving, I did a compression check and number 2 cyclinder had no compression what so ever is what lead to me searching around. what would cause this , i pulled the manifold off and i see some rust in the exoport where valve is stuck. My question is , what is involved in pulling the head and who does valve work on these? also I have a IH manual and there is nothing in it about valve adjustment what so ever. I have a IH shop manual and nothing is straight forward in the book and i am very machanically inclined, but this book in my opinion is not very detailed or straight forward. is there anything about doing a valve job on this head i should know, i thought i remembered reading something years ago about someone having a head done and the shop didnt install keepers right ,, or right size keepers, i cant remember. if anyone could shed any light on where I could get the valve adjustments and maybe anything I should know or to look out for when pulling the head I would appreciate it.

Why pull the head? Put some penetrating oil on the valve stem under the spring and work up and down until free. Replace pushrod and good to go! I've had good luck using alcohol on stuck valves as it is varnish from fuel that sticks them if it didn't get water in the engine!!

You ask around to find an auto machine shop that does machining such as redoing cylinder heads, grinding crankshafts, turning rotors and drums.

If you can't free the valve as been mentioned you pull the head as it probably needs to be reworked. If you don't have the valve clearance in your manual you do a search on your computer. Here's a link to the settings. If you pull the head take pictures before and during the head removal. Separate the parts as you remove them and make notes. Cardboard boxes are good for that it saves time when you do the reassembly. Make notes too. Write on the box put the rocker arms, push rods and nuts or bolts that may be used. Same thing with cylinderhead
bolts or nuts. Set the valve clearance at .017" cold. Hal

To bad you already pulled the manifold off. If it where me I would have fill the cylinder with ATF and also poured ATF down the exhaust pipe if up right type and let it sit a few days and it would have stood a good chance that it would have freed up

Hal, thanks very much for all the infomation, my shop manual gives everything for Diesel's in the same motor noting for the gas motor. To me it looks like its never had a valve job and i wouldnt pull the head with a stuck valve with out getting a valve job done. again thanks for the help.. thank you Robbie P
