What to charge

I have a elderly neighbor that wants me to brush hog his old pastures etc. There are some small trees bust it is mostly grass and thistles etc. I would be using a 10 foot woods mower or a 8 foot flail mower. What would be a fair charge. I'm in southeastern WI.

Tha is for the help.

Last year I was charged $50/hour with 4 hour minimum... Might have been a little high since it was about 6 foot deep in kudzu and briars....

Aside from the pay rate, do walk those fields if you can, or if you have never been in them, always some little gem in there to hit, that you don't see to negate what you are getting paid, job could cost you, rather than pay if you don't.

I have a 5 acre property that costs me $150.00 per cutting here in PA. Have to mow it twice a year or get a letter from the township.

I am in N.H. towards the seecoast here the thing is what kinda neighbor are you doing this as a favor if thats it fuel and a little for wear and tear i am sure you know what he can afford. but when charging you need to figure out how much your equipment cost you and your time how much are you worth a hour we shouldnt cut our selfs short say your worth 25 bucks a hour that sounds high but your getting no benfits just raw time you have a skill say 25 for tractor thats 50 hr up north i wont touch down in a field for anything less then 75 bucks hr 3 hr min i figure i have to ussually drive half hour halfhour back home thats hour free already . Most farmers are the hardest workers and least paid i have 80 acreas of land i wish i could farm it full time. I cant for the folks that do dont undersell your products . I was raised most of my life on a dairy farm i have seen the looks on my aunt and uncles faces when they got there milk check .I have always felt our farmers have been stepton . Charge fair price but be firm you hit rock and blow a gear box it could really hurt you in the wallet

Around Houston the going rate seems to be $30-35 per acres with some stipulations on miles and size of pasture to be mowed.

Most of the business men have in the contract that anything they hit is the landowners responsibility unless it was specifically noted and flagged.
Been a few case of junk in the field and the land owner pd the contractor for damage to mower and tractor.

The amateurs with a tractor and a brush hog trying to make some extra money are the ones burning and getting burned by the general public.

The way the weather going down here,I would cut it down and bale what I can.then put an ad on Craig's list.having a hard time finding any rounds bales grassy or not.just my two cents.by the way do you have any hay for sale.

I run an 8' mounted Bush Hog on a 65hp tractor and charge $75 an hour. 10 acres fields I can cut 3 acres an hour. Competition is higher....I am busy!

I totally agree with you about hay. These fields have too much other stuff in them and little grass. I have been making hay this summer in areas in years past I have passed on but I think hay will be very short in the winter time. Where are you located?

Joe

I,am down in muskego area, racine, waukesha, and milwaukee borders.I just do,my 50 acres of hay for my wifes, friends and inlaws horses and steers.I ve picked up some last years hay to help their friends out. alot of people are going to be surprised come winter,if they didn,t fill their barn..
