If you are in your 60,s and into drag racing then you KNOW what is. Rest of you may have to think a while. Fond memories of simpler times.

Can't quite nail it down. Unfortunately, while being a drag racing fan, I have never actually been around many of those machines. Has something to do with finances, I think. But it sure would look good under the hood of my '86 F-150!

Ford 427 with Hilborn Injectors in probably an early version of the Funny cars. Engine is set back abit.

aside from this beast, the FE engines never had that great of a racing reputation compared to the small blocks, clevelands, or 385's did they? all later model engines though right? was the 428 an FE? where's the windsor fit in?

428's were FE's. I always though they had a -great- drag race reputation. (I think it was Car and Driver that called the 428 Mustang the 'Fastest running stock known to man' in '68.)
Windsors are small blocks... 260's, 289's, 302's and 351's are all part of the Windsor family. Maybe one or two earlier/smaller ones, too?

FE from 332 cu in to 428 (Including the NASCAR 427 in the "Low,Med & Hi-Rise" versions)..

Worst I ever did have happen was to break a valve-SPRING..
Bent the valve but nothing else..!
Actually, it broke driving it home and I drove on home Hammering..figured it was a gonner..!!!
Chrysler really did some Crying, when Ford brought out the "Hi-Rise 427"...!!!!!
I have a set of 427 Med Riser heads with Tunnel-Port Valves (with the matching Crane Cam)..
The Cam was where the hidden BEAST hid..!!
Built right, they were awesome...
Always wanted to build a 427 with a 428 Crank (454 Cu In)..
Ron..

The 428 and the 427 were FE blocks. The 390 wasn't too bad. My brother has a tripower 390 in a Fairlane - it doesn't seem too slow to anyone.

The FE engines were produced from 1958 to 1976, the "truck" version (FT engine) was produced from 1964 to 1978.

The Windsor engine from 1962 to 1991. The "first" Windsor was the tiny 221 - the fan seemed bigger than the entire profile of the engine.

I recognize that old girl. I've got a 427 that resides in my 68' Cougar. Alas "The Cammer" is the holy grail to the Ford guys. Thanks for posting the picture. I always loved the howl of the cammer chains...not obnoxious like a gear drive, but the noise it emits let's ya know it's got the good stuff.

SOHC aka Cammer. I am guessing AA/FA altered wheelbase. Not a funny car since the hood is pin-on, versus a flopper.

Nice set of 10 spoke spindle mount front wheels with no brakes. Closer look, probably 5 spokes.
Mechanical injection..........

PERFECT STREET CAR!!!!

BillyinStaughton was closest! '67-'68 Cougar early funny car clone ala " Fast Eddie" Schartman late '60,s. The injected lightwieght Cougars/Mustangs and Cyclones gave the Mopars and GM,s fits. Kalitta and others were very competitive and won their share in top fuel and funny car with this engine. Punch in NHRA Hot Rod Reunion / Beach Bend Raceway in Bowling Green KY. It's a worthwhile trip if ya ever get the chance.

427 ford cammer....the sweet deal is they are making them again and now they will go to 527 inces....you can get them in cast iron or aluminun blocks!!!!
