Cow/Calf Performance MF Tractor

Just sold my calf crop at Cleburne auction yesterday in No Cen TX. Sold 5 bull calves and 5 heifer calves. Wanted to hold heifers, but last years bad drought and high hay prices turned off my plans. The table below tells the story. Cows are full blood Angus, Bull was Black Brangus (1900 lbs in thin condition, 14 yrs old). Notice the birth dates, whole crop was between 11/29 and 12/23, with exception of one on Jan 7th.

Calves were loaded up here and shipped 40 miles on Friday, for auction on Sat, so do doubt some shrinkage. Were taken directly off cows, no creep, no implants. Question for you experts. Is the difference between Bulls and Heifers always this much (135 lbs)? How much lighter do you think the bulls would have been if I had banded them as planned? Heifers brought $130, 132, 136. Bulls brought 125, 127, 135 per hundred.
Comments please, and thanks.

Normal spread between bulls & heifers is 50-75 #s at weaning. The few times I've hauled cattle to Cleburne sale I wasn't impressed. I'll haul mine to West or Hubbard. I'm a lot closer than 40 miles to Cleburne sale.I hear Decatur has a good sale.
Here's what West Auction showed for steers/heifers in your calves weight bracket brought on 07-05-2012 at their sale.
#1 TYPE STEERS

500# - 600# ---------------------------------------------------------------- $140.00 $160.00 per cwt.
600# - 700# ---------------------------------------------------------------- $142.00 $155.00 per cwt.

#1 TYPE HEIFERS
500# - 600# ---------------------------------------------------------------- $140.00 $160.00 per cwt.
600# - 700# ---------------------------------------------------------------- $130.00 $150.00 per cwt.

I talked to a friend of mine that is a cattle order buyer at the Cleburne sale. He stated that he thinks he bought several of your bull calves and they would have brought more $$$$$$$$ if you'd have marketed them at a little lighter weight. He also stated that you had some excellent calves.
