lack of water

I have been trying not to let the lack of rain cloud my otherwise sunny disposition.

We sure don"t need anymore sun, though.

I noticed yesterday that I am losing more and more trees around the barnyard with this drought. Most are in the 30 foot range but some are larger. Do trees ever go dormant in this kind of a situation (like the grass did back in May)? I have just assumed that there will be a lot less shade to park tractors under, but I would giggle like a girl if these leafed out next year.

Anyone know?

I have photos of my great grandfather watering the trees on his homestead here in 1889. Horses, wagons and water from a well they dug by hand.
Maybe you could find a way to get some water to them? 500 gallon tank on trailer with a 1 1/2 outlet and 20 foot hose? Or used 200 gal tank from an old sprayer at the next auction?

I"ve been watering the new trees from the cistern. I didn"t have any fear of running it dry as it hasn"t ever run dry since it was dug in 1936. It"s one of the biggest around here.

The news says this is the second driest year since they started keeping track here in 1911. I really don"t want to tax the old cistern too much and be the first one to ever run her dry.

I"ve never prayed so much in my life.

I have two old 500 gal Propane tanks in the back of my 2 ton Chev truck. 2" pipe coming out of each into a 1" pump. can run 2 garden hoses at once. Some day will hook up my 3" pump and really pump water with a 2" flat hose. we use this for fire control burning irrigation ditches. You can buy old propane tanks cheap.

I would start to water them, haven"t known a tree to go dormant in summer. Can you trap the water from your bathroom.
Way way back when there was a drought. a simple flexible rubber funnel was made which was fitted into the bath outlet pipe by removing the inspection screw to divert the water out into a hose, hence to the trees.

A friend of mine takes all the water off his gutters when it rains and uses large plastic barrels to hold the rain water. He stores the water for watering his garden. (he just has tomatoes and beans in a 30 x 40 area)
You could do something similar and water the trees in dry conditions. I also saw a large water truck on the road last week, I dont know if this guy fills pools or waters crops. But if you call the fire department (and offer to pay for the call) this could be another option. My grass looks brown as a grocery bag but I am not using well water to green it up.
