Coolant In Oil on 1951 John Deere B

This John Deere has had its cylinder head and gaskets replaced about 3 months ago. The old head was cracked and was replaced. Now we still have coolant in the oil, and we don't know what it could be. Maybe we need to torque the bolts a little more?

Tips are greatly appreciated!

First off did you re-torque the had after you warmed it up?? If you did not that could be the problem. If you did you may have a cracked block or other such problem. So the question why was the head cracked??? Was it run and over heated or did it have the coolant freeze at one time either one can cause major problems in any engine

Some year models have pushrod tubes that go through the water jacket .Put the rear tires up on blocks so the engine is tilted forward and take off the valve cover , and you may see rust or water running out of one of them .

Thanks for your reply! We didn't re-torque, and we plan on doing so now.

The cracked head was the original to the tractor, and the damage was probably done by the owner before us. The originals were notorious for cracking. We aren't sure what happened with the prior owner to crack the head, and we can't ask him anymore.

Thanks for your help!

You may get lucky and be able to re-torque thew head if you did not run it long with it leaking. If you ran it very long at all you may need to replace it. If you do have to replace it then you need to torque it down run it till warm let cool a bit then re-torque it

If you don't need the tractor right away I'd drain the oil and let it set with the valve cover off and the oil drain plug out. It may take some time, but you will likely see where it's leaking. I have had bad push rod tubes in the head, cracked push rod bores in the block, etc. You just have to keep looking.

It may have been a different roblem .But I think I read some time ago on here. That some one had that trouble. Some people clamed the cooper washer you get in the head gasket set are no good and do nut crush correctly and cause a leak. They came originally with lead washers in the gasket set. Some company’s still sell them with lead washers. Check Fellpro I think theirs are lead. I think you still can get the lead washers from mother Deere yet also.
