Dangerous Place to Work

We have been working about 300yds from I26 at exit 194 about 20 miles out of Charleston. We have been there since March and there has been 3 accident related deaths and one murder within a mile of our job. The first a vehicle hit the overpass. The second ran off the road and hit a tractor mowing the grass then a tree. The third was a box truck that ran off the road hit a tree and caught on fire. The last was near our job as I looked up to see a plume of black smoke and then heard the fire trucks. The really sad one was a girl from Bali that was with Her boyfriend and a teenager carjacked the car and let the boy go and took her to the interstate exit and killed Her. We have about three more weeks of work and I will be glad to get away from there.

Yeah, that"s gotta be hanging over you"re shoulder like a dark cloud. Especally that last one - did they nab the culprit? Get it done, and move on.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case nationwide. Distracted driving and crime is rampant. Makes me mad when the law enforcement agency announces that crime rate is down. Glad i live in the country cause i am becoming more contented staying at home.

Around me the best thing they can worry about is minors buying beer. So they waste time with a decoy and multiple cops. Meanwhile, texting, speeding and rage go unchecked. Red lights are a mere "suggestion" to stop and the speed limit on any given road is 65 no matter how smalla road or congested. Like I say, the most organized "gang" in our city is the cops.

North Charleston area and west to I95 along I26 nasty area.

When we lived in Mt. Pleasant, off of 526, I remember N. Charleston as having one of the highest crime/murder rates in the country.

My wife worked for Suncom for awhile outside of Charleston and some of here co-workers were done right scary in my opinion.

Just as well kill you while stealing from you without a thought of it.

But I have to agree, crime is up all over, with so many out of work for so long, with nothing to lose, crime pays. The police cannot keep up with it.

Sad to say but it is just the signs of the times and how things have gotten bad all over. Back when I was down there you almost never heard of stuff like that going on but then that was 35 plus years ago and more people cared about others

Almost everyday here the local paper posts crime reports related to tourists and locals being robbed and assaulted, a lot of them in Myrtle Beach hotel parking garages. Some of the locals are getting fed-up. The beach used to be a family friendly place. Unfortunately, that is no longer true.

They picked him up the next day apparently he did it because he was mad at his parents.

I traveled all over the USA thirty years ago and there where few places I was afraid to go. Today the list of bad places would number in the hundreds. We have a whole generation of people that have zero morals and zero consonance. They don't think of any one but themselves. Then you add a bleeding heart legal system and it just builds. In the old days you either respected the law or you feared it. They do neither these days. The old prison chain gangs worked to help stop repeat offenders. Make the stay so bad and rough that they do not want to go back. Today the judge just tells you to be a good boy and Please don't do it again. Plus a whole bunch of boys that have not had the snot kicked out of them when they acted up. Everyone of my three sons tried to be the big man at some point in their teen years. It did not hurt them to walk around for a few days with a few bruises. Like the old Hank Williams Jr. song, they just needed an attitude adjustment. It is better then than them getting in trouble with the law.
