ot power washing vinyl siding

I was thinking I saw a thread on here not too long ago about what is a good choice for washing down vinyl siding, but couldn't find it. Anyone have a good product? The house needs cleaned and I need the moisture around the foundation so this is a good time to do it. Just to keep tractor related, the power sits next to my 2N.

I'm thinking the wife sprayed ours with something called Simple Green or some such thing. Then she used a long handled truck wash brush. I lifted her up in the loader bucket so she could reach the two story part. Glad to have been some help to her anyway.

Usually able to clean our vinyl with just a brush and pressure washer but my wife has used a little bleach and water in a sprayer too then brush and rinse. Oh and the loader works good for lifting my wife to clean the gutters. I"m much more comfortable with me at the joystick.

Simple Green, then my car wash brush on it, then powerwash it off. It works good on my fiberglass camper and my vinyl siding. That should work for you. I buy Simple Green in the gallon container then mix it in a spray bottle. It works good on grease removal on my equipment, car engines or what ever. The stuff has worked good for me and the price is right.

Thanks for all the replies. Wife says she has heard good things about Simple Green too. I do not have a bucket and even if'n I did, ain't no way she'd get in it - but that is a funny picture in my mind!

Protect your eyes,I used to was wash own houses for people to make extra money, sprayed simple green out of a spray bottle and hand washed the gutters, all of a sudden I started seeing what looked like smoke, the simple green along with the bright sun blinded me for about 3 days,it wasnt fun

I have to ask, what are you cleaning off the siding?
If just regular dust/dirt, I would try cheap dollar store dish soap.
If grease, I would try Dawn dish soap.
If you've got some mold from the heat, bleach or vinegar.

Oh! Careful with bleach though! Test for color fastness or you may have white siding!

Waalll-------it shows ya at least had some feelings fer yer wife. If ya hadn't set there and watched her work, we'd not thought much of ya! But, since ya did watch her working, it shows you do love her! ;o)

had some algae growing on northside, mixed TSP in hot water, had brush head on telescoping handle, didnt take too much work to clean up real nice

go to ehow.com. it will tell you how to use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to clean about anything. It works great

What may look to like dirt may actually be black mold. Mold also comes in other colors too. Pressure washing will not remove all the mold, you MUST use bleach to remove mold. I first brush bleach on, not spray, because the spray will get all over including your lungs.

Menards has deck wash on sale sometimes and it's free after rebate. I stock pile it. Once a year in the fall, I wash all my houses. Deck wash is a strong bleach. I mix it with water, depending on how bad the mold is, sometimes 25-50% bleach. Use a brush on an extenstion pole, a brush I wash my cars with, and brush the mix on. Sometimes, I have to do this many times, if the mold is bad. With the dry summer, I may brush it on and them do nothing, just leave it. Other times, pressure wash, bleach, pressure wash, bad spots 100% bleach.

Each house is different, sometimes it's the north side with black or green mold, sometimes the east side has orange spots. Sometimes the west side is a pain. Sometimes, I brush on bleach and do nothing if it looks fine. Never had bleach fade my siding. Most of my sidings are white or a wheat color.
