So I'm a Merle Haggard Kinda Guy... (OT)

Im a confirmed Merle Haggard, Eddie Arnold, Mel Tillis, Buck Owens, Foggy Mountain Boys kind of guy. (Which is a bit odd since Im young for that demographic)...but I enjoy that "Old timey music" as they so put it in the movie O Brother Where Art Thou.

Well my brother in law dragged me off the farm yesterday since I was so tuckered out prayin for rain and took me over to Milwaukee for Summerfest.

As a died in the wool country guy, please dont overlook the rock n roll. We saw Iron Maiden play and they just blew this country kid away! Those Brits know how to run a guitar. Oh man...and with 95° degree weather the girls werent hardly wearing anything. It was worth the admission at twice the price.

Long live "old timey music" AND rock n roll!

I can appreciate your desire to listen to the old western songs. As I see it Rock and Roll was doing just fine until the Brits landed on our shore. The hot weather does have some benefits, as you noticed. Stan

Heck you may not stay on the farm if you keep goin astray like that lol.......The movie Oh Brother helped revive traditional bluegrass while "old timey" is often thought of as that appalachian lap dulcimer and guitar and mandolin mountain folk bluegrass and hillbilly sort of music.

My son plays hard core Mississippi Delta Blues on Beale Street in Memphis give that a listen.

Its cool when younger folks like traditional country in my opinion, keep up the good work and hey them young girls must like it too lol

What about Tennessee Ernie Ford's " Bless Your Little Pea Picking Heart" which i have been picking this week. Clarification-physically picking peas not picking a tune on a guitar.

A week or so ago, Chief mentioned that he went to some show that he didn't care much for, to see some guy sing that didn't impress him a lot. At least, that's what I got out of it, and agree with him. I posted a link to a duet by George Strait and Alan Jackson called "Murder On Music Row", where these days, the very fellas that you mentioned that helped build the very foundation of Nashville, including Merle, named in the song, could not and would not be allowed to sing by the big cheeses that run and sold out Nashville. I admire George and Alan for having the guts to call a spade a spade, and call the spades out.

Here you go, two legends in their own rights, George and Alan making no friends at the top of Music Row, God love 'em, they sure did make me proud...

As everyone is moaning about the heat, I think of the hottest place I ever been. Merle Haggard country. Modesto, Tulare county and Bakersfield area, the whole valley all week was around 103 at midnight!
Just lately telling Lyle the thermometer in the van was 117 from there driving across Arizona on Rt40.... but under the hood it was only 118! Eventually I had to fix the AC... you just can't keep beer cold in a car that warm..... and I didn't want to warp his greatest hits CD...

I figured somethin out in the last ten to 15 years or so, I like the classic country! The corny-er the better. I was a c&w fan in the early 80's...Alabama, Hank Jr, Mickey Gilley, etc. But then listened to a 80"s bubble gum pop music. As time went on I found I like what has been deemed the "classics". Possum, Twitty, Sr., Tammy, Loretta, you name it. Myself, I'm glad Hendrix and Morrison are gone! There's a reason 70's rock sounds like it does, Its called LSD!
