As said before My uncle, Lou Berry, had a long distinguished career in the Army. Two tours in Korea and in Viet Nam. He was a pilot not only helicopters but planes as well. He was not braggadocios but would relate things He did as He got older. I will relate this one as it was one of My favorite.
He was assigned to teach The President of South Viet Nam to fly a helicopter (I remember seeing the write up and picture in our local paper). While doing that they became good friends. He said that the president like to hunt bengal tigers. My Uncle had no interest in Tigers but he like to hang around with whatever was going on. He went out with the guys setting up for a hunt. He said they would take a goat out in the jungle and tie it down in a clearing for bait. While they are doing that he sees a wild pig and thinks that is something he could eat so he grabs his rifle and takes off after the pig. He chases him into the jungle and the pig runs into a stand of bamboo. Just as he gets to the edge of the bamboo here comes the pig back out straight at Him. Thinking quickly He reasons that there is only one thing the pig would be more afraid of than him and his rifle, The Tiger. He takes off running back with the pig right behind him. He gets to the clearing just as the President arrives and starts hollering "Berry the pig will not harm you, The pig will not harm you". He said he did not stop to explain.
