just bought a gas powered backpack blower, after sending it to the repair shop with 20 minutes on it to get the chinese junk thing fixed so it would start again,[ carb problem they said] so it would run, i had it sitting in the bed of my pickup under a cap, we had a lightening strike on the hill behind the house, about 1/2 mile away, while this happened the blower fired up all by itself! [its battery start, so the wife can use it] but ive never seen anything start up all by itself i mean there was nobody even near the truck, should i shoot the thing? or what

The neighbor had a JD combine catch fire the other year. They shut the machine off got out, and were battling the fire with fire extinguishers. All of the sudden the engine fired up and started running. No one could figure out how or why....

SIR..... Put DOWN the crack pipe and back away slowly....... Things are not what they seem and the rifridgerator IS NOT breathing and coming after you...
It'll all be fine if you just turn yourself in and ask for counseling......

I got a chinese back pack brush cutter that I wish would start once in awhile... Maybe I should send it to you to keep awhile?????

I've heard of diesel tractors starting themselves and driving out of burning buildings. i don't know if it because the fuel heats up or if it is an electrical short. Yeah, with the blower it probably has a micro chip in there that could easily be shorted buy stray voltage (such as an indirect lightning strike)

I have often wondered, when hauling a tractor with a mag, and it is in gear. If the tractor rolls just enough to snap the mag will it start? Stan

Wife had an old Vega one time that started itself several times.

Really weird to be sitting in the house and hear it start cranking over, or come out of the grocery store to find it running!

Bad pressure sensor somehow fed back through the starter relay.

i was taught never to haul a tractor in gear. hard on the gears they say. just set the brakes and chain it down well.

The people I used to run the harvest with had a 8820 Deere stuck in the mud in a wheat field when the field caught on fire. It burned the combine but he said the combine did start up on it's own and sat there running while it was on fire. After awhile the engine started running wild till it finally gave up the ghost. He didn't say if it threw a rod, locked up or just quit running.Jim

Had a chrysler lebaron that the windows would go up and down on there own and the locks would lock and unlock too. The dome light would turn on too til it melted. Had to make sure never to leave the keys in the thing or you could be locked out.

My new weed eater has only a kill switch like the old engines were. I will not get near it in a thunder storm after hearing you story.

This can happen. The fire burns off the insulation on the wiring harness and the relay to the starter is shorted to any live wire and energizes the starter.

BINGO! ,, My 4020 went thru a season of starting itself ... done that at least 10 times ,, drove my electrical minded neighbor nuts ,at the time we had no idea how critical the problem was ,UNTIL , finally the wiring cauht fire around 10 pm one nite..ended up rewiring the money pit

Anyone remember the movie called Maximum Overdrive where all the cars and appliances became alive?
Last night my mom's microwave oven would come on and start to cook WHENEVER YOU OPENED THE DOOR, but wouldn't do anything with the door closed! We quickly unplugged it and threw it out.

I had a BEER open itself one time. Then I was forced to drink it.

Stray high voltage can do some strange things. To the control bords of today. I was programing a transfer switch at a transmitter site. Pushed the set button to enter the program. All of a sudden it changed my program. I watched the screen as the entire program was changed.

Turned out the the station transmitter was effecting the switch. They had to install a shield around the switch to stop it.

Just replaced a 18 month old Microwave ( Under range Type) that would turn on by its self I wonder
how many fires are started with overheated appliances like this. New board replacement cost was as much as new one.

lol dave, i wouldnt know crack if i saw it, the only thing ive ever tried in 5 decades is some moonshine, and old number 7 jd if i couldnt get the shine, and its been 5 years since ive had either

I think they should make all 2 cycle motors that way as hard as they are to start and run.

We had a lightning strike 1/4 mi away last year. It fried the board in our automatic gate controller and fried a neighbors inverter for his solar system. Most transformers within a mile or so had to be replaced. strange powerful stuff that lightning.
