it's like digging in concrete. You know how the dirt usually falls away from the spud - not here, got to bust up the clumps to get to the potato and then they are small. Now I like small potatoes and creamed peas so the will be enjoyed but it sure like mining to get them - wait - these were Yukon Golds - ah that explains it!

The wifey and I pulled all our pea plants this morning. They were in a 3'x12' raised bed box. The vines were turning yellow and pods were becoming small. We froze 15 meals, plus we had 3 fresh meals from the box. I will plant a fresh crop tomarrow, for a Sept. harvest, when our spuds are big and ready for harvest The spud vines in the right of pic. have tipped over from the wind and watering. they were about 3' tall. The peas grew to about 7' on the string trellis. Pics. about 2 weeks old.

I dug my first dinner of new spuds last Thursday over here in N.Ireland, very early for our place. I planted the last week in Feb, but only put in 100 sets. We have had loads of rain this month and you can tell by the soil. My dinner was sort of 'Home produced' The potatoes, beans and cabbage were from my garden the (overcooked!) egg was from our hens , my brother makes the sausages and my sister makes cheese for the sauce! Yummy!
