Rabbits invading gardens

I was talking to a lady the other day that owns and runs a vegetable stand. She was having problems with rabbits getting into her garden and eating it all up. She believes it is due to the dry weather and them looking for moisture. She put out a garbage can lid and filled it with water and made it accessible to the rabbits. Now they leave her garden alone and problem solved. Just thought I would throw it out there for anyone interested.

Agreed but sometimes alternative options are good too. I like rabbit casserole also. Introduced in-laws to rabbit that way.

The poor little beggars have been all but wiped out due to coyotes around here. Only seen one rabbit outside of town in the last 4-5 years.

Sounds like you need someone to go and get some of the coyotes for you. They are pretty thick every where you go. Even see them in the middle of the day now. Never used to see them at all

Rabbits? Things are so tough around here that when one runs across the road we have to slam on the breaks cause there will be a family behind it chasing it for supper..:)

I have been fighting rabbits in town for the past 4 or 5 years. They take a special liking to the beans... Anyway, after years of fruitlessly trying to catch them (over 30 rabbits relocated to our other farm where they have acres of alfalfa to munch on), I finally broke down and made this:

That seems to have done the trick. And they are in 4 foot and 8 feet sections, tied with #9 wire to electric fence stakes. The fence is painted white, the stakes are orange. I'm about to make another two 8 foot sections so we can widen out our coverage.

The materials were pretty cheap, too... Electric Fence stakes are about $1.50 a piece, 50 feet of chicken wire is about $15, and the 1x2 pine boards are about 90 cents a piece. And a few bucks on nails and fence fasteners. And I have plenty of spare paint and #9 wire sitting around just waiting to be used. I like the nice, modular approach.
