OT--Locating underground power

I need to locate an underground 120V power supply feeding my tractor storage shed.
I have used the "bent wire" wishing procedure but have had limited results.
Digging is questionable because the entire area has been backfilled. I will be adding a lean-to and I don't want to disturbe the supply line.
What is the name of the meter-tester used for this?
Yes I have also tried a metal detector.

The last time I called "Miss Utility", they sent the power comapny, the phone company and the town (I"m on town water) out to my farm. They marked everything for free.

You own the lines from your meter to any building, but the
utility will usually help you mark them for free.

It's called "Miss Dig" here in Michigan, they come mark them for free.
However, if the wires were installed in such a way that Miss Dig would not know where they are, you could turn off the power and use a tone generator to trace them.

I always found that the teeth on the outside of my backhoe bucket was the best method I ever found to locate water lines, phone lines as well as underground electric wires. I have had them come out and paint the ground where not to dig and ten feet away from their paint get into a phone trunk line with those backhoe bucket finder teeth. At least it don't cost the digger if they paint first.

The last time I called 800 dig, the water main wasn't where they marked it. The water company told me if I hit their main it would have been my fault, not theirs. They don't have to be accurate. Some say 3 ft and some say 10 ft. Water company told me that I should hand dig. Yea, right.

As for finding your private lines, you are on your own. Find someone with a signal tracer. Or start at the shed and dig by hand. LOL

We use locators here in Omaha daily at work.
We never had a problem with them being off and if there is something they feel is very critical they"ll call for a standby were a locator will come out and actually tell you were to dig.If it"s painted and you hit something it"s on them.
Omaha calls it Diggers hotline.

I have operated a backhoe for many years and can't count the times I have "Called before I Dig".
I just had no idea that the power company would come out and locate a 110V private power supply.
I'll call and see what they say.

call an electrician we have a locator for that and 1800 dig only locats tele optic and power company lines your private ones you are responsible for
