You corn farmers must be rich

Well, if you can spend that kind of money and still lol about it, you must not be hurtin' too bad. lol. Here in North Carolina, the only way we used to get a decent return on our investment was to sell our corn by the gallon. (Ever see the movie "Thunder Road"? They busted a still in another county just a few days ago. But you don't find many stills now, everybody is growing "weed".

(quoted from post at 21:56:00 07/01/12) I took the family to the movies, 6 soft drinks and three bags of popcorn only cost 55 bucks...lol
s a Oat farmer, you got to be rich too,..i just bought a couple bags of oatmeal,..$2.50 a lb,..that works out to $80 a bushel

(quoted from post at 02:42:50 07/02/12) Sufferin' Teapot!

I hope them bags of popcorn were burlap and about 4
feet tall!

Naa.... The popcorn and drinks came wif free movie tickets

I was going to hire a guy with a dozer to put a drive in a while back. After I found out what the rates were I decided to do it myself. It took me two weeks with my tractor to do what he could do in a few hours with his JD dozer. I figured I still came out way ahead.

Of course we are rich. You have to be rich in order to buy 250 dollar a bag seed corn, 600 dollar a ton fertilizer, and a half million dollar combine to harvest with. Of course with 100+ degree weather and corn rolling up by ten oclock in the morning there will be little to harvest.

Its always greener on the other side of the fence. Joe

a know I was just jokin didnt ya??? I realized all the hardships and struggles a fella goes through tryin to make a living on the farm. I as just trying to make a point that the middle man rakes in all the profits, thats all :D

Wouldn't you know it. Price of pop corn goes up and I planted all field corn. Story of my life. Always planting the wrong thing in the wrong year.

Don't feel too sorry for at least some of the corn farmers. Friend in Indiana raised 2000 acres @ 200 bu/acre and sold most of it to the ethanol plant for over $7.00/bu. Claimed the net was $1000/acre before rent. He owns most of it but the remainder was rented at roughly $250/acre. Decided to give the landlords a bonus, and built an in-ground pool. Don't feel sorry but no disparaging comments either. He works for it and in this instance hit a home run. I've sat a this computer and in a couple of minutes captured a few dollars trading equities with a lot less sweat and he never complained.

Yeah, you rich contractors can afford to go out and blow all that money on entertainment and fine dining. Usen poor farmers are scraping by, can't afford to watch movies on free TV or dine in fine establishments. My poor kids only get enjoyment outta drooling over the Orville Redenbacher advertisement in the paper. And you're probably taking them on a camping vacation again this weekend with the profits from your saw operation. Do you starve your employees , too? Smokey was telling Jake and Willie about the cheaper kibbles you been buying recently. Said something about what a bustard you are with your newfound wealth----

Ell, we were poor dust farmers when I was a kid, We couln't aford the dirt. BUT I had a GREAT Dad, One evening round 9:pm after school, "took a while to walk home after school cause I had to walk 40 miles uphill to get home", Anyhowl after I got home from school, Dad had been feeling bad cause he couln't aford to buy us boys any toys, So he cut a hole in our pockets so we's have something to play with. wour't much but better than nothing. Best Dad ever!! By the way what is popcorn? Is it something like Grits?

The refreshments are how the theaters and such as that make their money, not off the movies. Same way with gas station/quick shops. Their main profits come from snacks, etc. not fuel. The cup a soda comes in costs more than the soda in it does.

Hey you dirty dog--Smokey jes emaled me thet yu tol him he was on a half grits rashun few a week. Keep thet crud up, an me an willie gonna haf ta commup thar and stick som ded mice in yer boots an drop a ded rat or to in yer post tosties--J
