OT-computer HD question

I see that solid state HDs are now priced about the same except they are smaller. No way do i need those big babies. What is the general opinion on them? Should i just use a SS one when ever i need to replace a mechanical one? Assuming that i don't need a larger one?
Reason I ask is friend just blew her HD and it needs replacing. I hope i can save the info.

Solid State is the future. Do they fail (rocks crack) not as often by far, no moving parts. Remember to also back up your data with a HDD. A terabite is now at the 100$ price point. Because you can control when it is on, the use of a disk based backup is fine. Jim
