john deere B piston and rings

Just had my B engine machine after being stuck for many years.
Need to purchase piston, rings, valves, etc. at .090 over.
My question is, are all kits have alu piston or can you get steel
ones? Need other parts too, so I am looking for part distributors
with good service and prices. thanks alot Bryant

Which version of the B? There was three different bore sizes. The late B will take the 50 LP pitons and pickup some power.

I disagree with david G below. If any two cylinder JD has had aluminum pistons in it you can tell at an idle. They are not a smooth running as a they should be with the heavy steel/cast pistons.

Generally you would buy your pistons before you have the block machined so it can be bored to fit the pistons better.

(quoted from post at 07:41:59 06/30/12) As long as they are the same weight they cancel each other. If it runs rough it has other problems.

Maybe so, but I'll bet the crank balance is set up for the heaver pistons.
