Y'all remember me talking about that highlander back in February?

Well, that $5,900 junkyard motor is going back in for more work. Last weekend it was to get the radiator replace that was full and clogged with some mysterious white stuff that I suppose was a head gasket sealant that didn't work.

I contacted the Toyota head quarters about the situation, they contacted the dealership about the situation, now the dealership is retaliating by threatening to charge me for all labor to replace the junk yard motor they advised me to put in because it was the cheapest route at the time.

I didn't sleep last night from day dreaming about strangling the manager there I'm dealing with.

Just ranting I guess. I've never been treated like this before. I suppose I'm even still in shock. I'm talking to a few friends now trying to find a lawyer. I can't believe this people.

Dealer's are all basically the same. They have the best service and etc. and etc. when you buy, but when you have a problem you are on your own. I will "never" buy another new vehicle or tractor for that matter. Find yourself a good independent mechanic and work with them.

I would sue them, I am not much on lawsuits, but $5900 for a used motor is ridiculous, and to then have all of these problems? Contact Toyota head quarters, and tell them you are sueing them, and your attorney needs the correct address.

Yep, if an independent can work on it, that's the way to go. I just had a customer called me with a change of plans in regard to working on one of his machines and asked me if I worked on Deere's too. I said yep, why? He had just taken his loader to the dealer for some undercarriage work, which they charged an arm and both legs for, and asked them while it was there if they could get the A/C system repaired since it has a full cab. They changed everything from hoses to relays on the A/C, charged him over $4000 parts and labor to do it, and then told him the compressor was bad. Needless to say he told them he's just sweat it out until he could get somebody else to work on it that could actually get it fixed, and do it without bending him over and taking his wallet to do it.

Just Speculation.. I heard that in Japan, they
don't rebuild/overhaul engines..just replace
with new. And some "importers" here buy those
"Takeout" moters cheap, by the container load,
bring them to USA for repair and resale!

You mean like a Dodge/Crysler product?? The are owned by FIAT in Italy. Most Toyota and Hondaa products are made right here in the USA. How about GM, run by Hussein external_link and the corrupt Union bosses. Try to learn something. Tom

Tom that's kinda short sighted in a way. The profit from that car made by a another country goes to that country......like Japan or Italy. More than likely it's going to be reinvested there too. The only people gaining from this are the American workers that they employ. Buy Ford or GM that profit stays here.

First of all to beat a dead horse at our household we have 4 cars, 2 Fords, a Dodge and a
Honda. Only one was "Made in the USA", wanna guess which one? Hint it starts with H and ends
with A, oh yeah and the Dodge was made by a German firm called "DaimlerChrysler". Car dealers?
before them we had horse traders, Find a copy of a book "Horse Trading" or "More Horse trading"
written by a character named Ben K Greene, seems when he was a young man he lit out on his own
trading horses and cattle, in his books you'll find two levels of tales, one when we was young
and trading for maximum profit and more when he was older and traded on long term relationships
and filled contracts for folks on a handshake and his reputation. I suspect some of the later
tales occurred after he became a DVM and had higher ethics to uphold. I have had a few car
dealers that I have developed relationships with, I trust them, they treat me fair and aren't
willing to jeopardize our relationship by trying to make a big lick on one car. The fact I
live in the sticks helps, small town dealers are more wary of bad word of mouth. The fact that
in a previous job I was the fleet car buyer helped. The the 4 to 10 units I was buying every
year was helping them meet their numbers, my predecessor bought off the state contract so a
dealer in Milwaukee or Madison got the sales, that wasn't helping out local dealers.
