injection pump

so i went to check the oil level in my WD9 injection pump today and when i opened the petcock diesel fuel came out? according to my manual their should be oil in there right? when the tractor is running nothing comes out at all. am i over looking something? the diesels are fairly new to me and i dont wanna go pouring oil into places im not sure of.i opened the drain for awhile thinking it would stop but it never did.it has a IH pump. any info would be great. thanks

We have had this happen on Farmall MD pumps, which I think are very similar to the WD9. There is a small fuel supply pump that drives off the back of your injection pump. There is a seal on the supply pump shaft that fails and allows diesel fuel into the injection pump case. Not hard to fix and we did not have to remove the injection pump from the engine. Seal can be sourced aftermarket I think. In the meantime drain the pump case regularly.
