need a little creative thinking....

Trying to leave the neighbor kid alone for awhile  In behind the FEL mount and PS hoses is the oil filler tube and dipstick. Has to be opened with a crescent wrench and is a bear to get to (original was leaking and real expensive so was modified with galv pipe fittings).
Anyway, thought the simplest deal would just be an 18" nipple in place of the 3 inch one that is there. Then just grab a long dipstick (auto trans maybe) from the strip yard and cut it to length. Filling won't be a problem cause I have an oil suction tube that works slick...
Anyone got a better idea?

Thanks, Dave

I can't really see the 3 inch nipple in the picture, but it sounds like it would work.
Are those arrows JD yellow?

That's the point..... Can't see and can barely reach it...

That yellow is just ugly enough to get your attention ain't it????

You don't need any more creative thinking, I can't think of a better way than that. Just remember to have the oil level right full to the old stick full mark before you start and to mark where that level is on the new stick before starting the tractor. Then lay both sticks together and mark the low level as well.

Why does it need to be opened with a crescent wrench?? Is it a square headed nut? If so, just by the right 8 point socket, and put it on a long extension. If it's too close to the side, then the first idea is prolly better!

original tube and cap/stick were boogered up and leaking and real expensive... Pipe nipples/fittings were on hand... Cap is a plug with a 1 inch hex head....

i see no reason it wont work, but just remember the more sticking out is the more to break off easier.i did that on a riding mower once. trying to get the oil drain plug out for easier access. Guess where the very first bush i tried to get close to hit!

Thanks for ruinin' that for me... Shouldn't be a problem tho because the FEL frame is protecting (hiding/obstructing) the filler now..... I'll get the stuff together and wait on the rountuit.....
