About the knee!

Saw the MD today, had Xrays taken and they saw a piece of bone floating in the joint. That's about all I found out. Appt with the orthopedist is July 11. Now that I think about it, every so often there will be a little pop in that knee and then the pain would be a little less. Feels like a normal popping joint only isolated to one small spot in the knee. Why the joint just popped big time and hurt like he!! when I took weight straight off the knee when I was getting on the tractor is a mystery. There was no twisting or jerking, I just lifted the leg straight up off the ground and POP! Would a piece of bone floating in the joint do that? Or is there something else too and they happened to find the bone piece with the Xray? I'll just have to be patient.

Today I can put some weight on it and I've been walking on it but I have the crutches under my arms for the times it stabs me. Last night the foot was swollen and slightly discolored but that's pretty much gone away now. Jim

Hang in there Jim. I went thru a siege of heel spurs about 10 years ago. All started when I jumped down off a wagon in the barn, took about 8 months of recovery, but I've been fine since. Good luck with it.

Get that knee fixed up quick, the Threshermens Show isn't far off. Good luck, hope it turns out OK or better. Dale

I can use the knee as an excuse to say no at the show LOL. More important is the trip to the Black Hills that Marilyn has planned starting July 22. We'll have three teenage granddaughters and one teenage step-granddaughter in the van with us. The lodging is booked for a week! Long walks to get away from it all might become necessary to keep insanity away! She had this trip planned two years ago but my back went haywire at the last minute so the trip was cancelled. This time she told me if I screw up my body she's loading the girls in the van and they are going without me!!! Hmmm. Might schedule the scoping for the 23rd. Jim

I had a knee blow up one time. I was doing some work on my knees-no pain or any sign of something gone wrong. I moved on the floor and it felt like I was kneeling on something-no pain, just like I had knelt on a wad of paper. Didn't think much of it till I went to kneel in a different spot and it felt like that again. I rolled up my pants and the knee was like it had a baseball in the joint. Didn't know what to do for sure but the electrician saw it and about passed out. Said his brother had that happen to him one time and he about lost the leg from infection. I went into the emergency room and had xrays and I forget what they called it. Something Verse sag burst maybe. Anyway, they gave me an antibiotic and a tight stretch sock to hold the swelling down and said to take Advils till it went down. I iced it and the next day it started going down but it took about a week before it was close to normal size. My leg started turning blue and went all the way down to my angle before it stopped. Doctor said as long as it doesn't turn red it was ok. That's been 2 years ago and it sometimes bothers and I will wear a brace on it. I always wear knee pads now-after 35 years of never bothering to. Doctor said I am 35 years to late with those.

Jim,

I don't know anything about a bone floating around in a knee, but about 15 years ago I tore a cartilage in my knee. I think it's called a "meniscus". Don't have any idea what caused it. My knee swelled up bad. Had the fluid drained a couple of times and had shots in the knee.

Finally had knee surgery. Professional football players have that surgery done on Monday and play football on Sunday. It took me WEEKS before my knee was back to normal. I guess I won't try out for the NFL.

Good luck with your treatment. After I healed, I was glad I had it taken care of.

I have had both knees replaced. first was several years ao and got along just great.
Left knee was doe by a surgeon that did the less evasive snakker incision. It never has been right. It always felt tight.complained "Oh it will get over it". some six years later it was worst and I was losing ground. Now I am in the rest home and they have some good physical therapist(and they are pretty good looking)I decided I was going to see if I could going. Showed my knee to the cute little thing. "Well something does not look right with your knee cap" Start working on it and started moving it around. Did this exercise and then another. Would hang weights on my ankles. Thought it was not doing much good. But everyday yhis cute little thing would show up at the room. "Come on it is time for theraphy". so off we went to the room. First thing was the maniplation of the knee cap. Finally "Get up out of your chair. I will help you walk with the walker" This I really dreaded because my shoulder alway hurt so bad. (rotor cuffs are shot will not reccomend surgery. Every one else always grabbed a shoulder aor a hand to help me up. She put a lift belt around me got in front om and walker and helped me raise up. I was able to walk and my shoulders did not hurt. Orders went out No pulling on my shoulder use lift strap. I i have walked several imes across the room and today I go out in the hall to walk. What am I trying to say? Well Doctors and tharapist are like tractors and then there are tractors. Some can and some cannot. The end thing is do not give up. Ride some bodies b**** till it is right. I was to soft on the surgeon He had done a lousy job and fit the new joint to tight and expected the muscles to stretch and correct his mistake. The tharapist he used tryed to strech them by putting my heal on a bolster then jump down on the knee to strech rhe muscles,Was able to swing around on bed,get my feet on floor, stand up and walk to my chair this morning by my self. So get on your surgeon.gitrib
