working on a New Holland 56 rake

How do you drop the drive shaft between the two rear wheels? I picked one up fairly cheap but both knuckles are shot on that shaft and should be replaced before I use it.

The operators manual does not address it.

looking at my 55 rake, I would say remove both tires and unbolt or cut off the bolts holting the axels to the main frame legs. You will need to jack up the rake body. However, if you mean the u-joints themselves (assume the yokes are ok), then just replace the u-joints 1 at a time, with axle intact.

Here's what I do. On one end or the other remove the pins that hold the joint to the wheel axle and the drive axle.Clean the drive axle with sand paper, lube it with kroil,wd40 any penetrating oil.Use a brass hammer or wood block and tap the joint back on the long shaft.Move it about an inch and it should come off. The parts aint cheap and make sure you get the right one. You'll need to measure the inner bore before you buy.Use this link.

Good Luck.
